Quest | The Fish is the Culprit, Queeek!
This was the most hellish quest I've ever embarked on. The quest itself is really time consuming. But, finding out the best way to catch a Blackfin Sea Perch is also very time consuming. So, I decided to make a master list of all the helpful information I found while trying to figure it out. If you have any info to add please comment it below and I'll edit my post! Good luck~! <3

How do you fish for perch?

I'm sitting here at the pier with my casting rod and i'm having no luck. Feeling like giving up and going to bed. Tried the bottom, tried the upper parts of the water. Tried shiny copper bait and some red gummy worm bait.
Any ideas? Where do i look?

Perch is a flock fish. If the flock comes by you then you're getting fish. It's a waiting game, but they should come by ever so often.
Usually perch is also a very interested species so sometimes you might see some small perch swimming under a... umm wooden dock (mikä on mökkilaituri englanniksi?) especially if your doing slowly something like fishing or just getting your feet wet.

Do many people eat yellow perch?

Title pretty much says it. Do you eat the yellow perch you catch? How do you prepare it?
I ask because I caught my first one today and wanted to eat it, but I let it go because I wasn't sure if it was good to eat or not.

Yellow perch are excellent to eat.
I usually fry them with a beer batter.
Tips for Perch?

Gonna be going out to sea next weekend targeting perch but I have heard 3-4 different things on type of baits and rigs.
Would like to see what everyone here thinks.

My favorite way to target perch is to use a tip down. I usually use a size 14 treble hook with a clamp lead shot about 8-10 inches from the hook. Then I rig it up with a crappie minnow and you should be catching perch (crappies and bass will sometimes take it too) in no time!

White or Yellow perch better to eat?

I thought I remember reading years ago one was much preferred to the other for quality of the meat, however now reading the internet again it seems like some people prefer one over the other but people definitely like both. I'm wondering if this is just because they can catch more of one?

Yellows are leaps and bounds better than whites to eat (but that is my opinion).
How to find yellow perch reliably?

I caught my first (tiny) yellow perch the other day, followed by another, and another, and another. (We did eventually get one decent-sized one). From my reading it sounds like they school, so it's either feast or famine with them. What are some of your techniques for finding and catching them in a lake? For finding them, we just got lucky. And for catching, we weren't sure what to do so we kind of tried everything, though ultimately spinners and flies seemed to work the best.
We're fishing freshwater lakes in the Pacific Northwest. Recently it's started to cool down here, and our latest success was on a cool and cloudy day.
Edit: I should mention that I do not have a boat; we fish from shore or piers.
